Before I get back on track with updates about my progress with 6M I have been looking at various traffic generating methods. It’s all very well posting this information but if nobody reads it…

For some time I’ve been creating Squidoo Lenses – really simple to do and if done well they produce near instant traffic and get ranked well by Google. Take a look at my Free Resources lens as an example – this is work in progress and took very little time to create. Much of the content comes from visitors!

I was reading a post by Mike Paetzold at Word Press Made Easy about blog traffic and he also refer to Squidoo as a good source of traffic along with using Technorati and good SEO techniques.

I find all this stuff fascinating and just wish I had more time to get an even deeper understanding.

Just stumbled across a post by Tray Gamble at her blog Success Chronicle which really endorses my feelings of “Nothing Changes Without A Change”.

The post starts:- “Change Your Focus, Change Your Life” and examines manifestation of thoughts into your life. A little spiritual for some but for me this works mainly because of the focus you give to what your really want rather than concentrating on what you don’t want. It’s difficult to think of negatives when you are smiling and looking up. There some good positive posts at Tray’s blog you may want to review.

No sooner do I just about get the hang of one piece of software, learn about this technology, fathom out what Web 2.0 is and something changes. I’ve only recently started this blog and I learn today from Mike Paetzold at Word Press Made Easy that there is a new version of WordPress I ought to be thinking about.

Like Mike (read his review at Word Press Made Easy) I like the current feature of scrolling down to see a preview of the page before actually submitting. However, some of the other features Mike mentions sound good.

More learning by the looks of things!

As I develop my thinking on the 6MProfitMethod I find myself drawn more to strategic thinkers rather than the “quick buck” product peddlers. I’m a fan of Rich Schefren and was reading a  great post on his blog today.  In my current business I encourage people to save for the future but advise them also that they should be living for today.

Rich Schefren suggests “…it’s no longer safe to assume that your tomorrow will be like today or yesterday, no matter how excellent you’ve been or how long you’ve been around”. How true that is. Despite passionately desiring a “better” future I believe it is essential to enjoy today.

I’ve heard far too many times people telling me they regret working all the time when their kids were growing up and not having time for them. So excuse me please I have to make time for mine right now. Catch up tomorrow.

I talked earlier about the WordPress Adsense System I’m now using.

Gobala Krishnan, the author, writes his own blog, surprisingly called GobalaKrishnan.com, that helps you start your own internet home business. Must be great to have an unusual name like that for Search Engine Optimisation.

Gobala promises he’ll link back to your blog (see rules) and send you a ton of traffic if you write a review of his blog.

Apart from the obvious potential for this blog, as I’m so pleased with his product I went over to his blog which I have to say is really good.

The first point to make is that he is using one of the theme’s he provides in his product (always a good sign) and there are some really interesting articles.

Unlike some internet gurus, Gobala seems very humble and honest – would you actually admit to earning less than US$0.30 per hour from your web business? Things have clearly improved for Gobala.

There is a particular good post about Keyword research which is an activity that I find an absolute bore! The reason for that is probably because I read it is essential but no-one has really explained the best way to do it. Gobala has a great way of explaining things, however, so maybe it is time I really got into this subject.

Take a look at his blog, do a review and see if you do get an increase in traffic. If you do let me know and I’ll post a link to your blog from here. Every little helps!

Two posts into my journey we need to take a quick step back…

I needed to set up a blog to monitor my journey and progress.  I’ve been using “blogger” for a while (see Costa Esuri blog) but wanted something I could host myself and not run the risk of it disappearing overnight!

Every blogger has there own favourite of course, but there seemed to be an over riding preference for WordPress.

So, I bought my domain name (see future post) and added it to my existing hosting account with HostGator – more later. Using the cPanel I installed WordPress (really simple) and set out creating my first post.

Now my first challenge – to find a Word Press theme I liked and was compatible with the plug-ons I thought I needed.

Then I find that education is required. You really don’t know what you don’t know until you start exploring a subject! 

It’s all very well having an idea of what needs to be done (new theme, widgets, plug-ins etc.) but how to do it is another matter. I needed help.

The 6M-Profit Method forum is full of really helpful people and I was given some links to some great sites where I found some of the answers but not everything was as clear as I wanted. Call me a bit slow if you like!

By chance – or more likely it came to me because of the law of attraction – an email arrived telling me about a great product that explains everything that needs to be known about setting up and making money from WordPress blogs. I read the sales page, time and time again, did some research on the guy the letter was from Gobala Krishnan and decided to give it a go.

Wow, am I glad I did! Not only does this product provide extremely easy to understand and follow instructions (with screen shots) it provides all the plugins I need together with some themes already Adsense optimised (that’s another project!)

Although the product is called WordPress Adsense System it is equally relevant whether or you not you want to use Adsense (I don’t on this particular blog). If you’re looking for a guide from start to set up, including Search Engine optimisation and how to generate traffic using Social book-marking then this is highly recommended.

That brings me back to this point. More about the domain name purchase and hosting solution soon plus updates on what I’ve done to optimise this blog.

When you really think about it…

Everything I’ve ever read says so…

There is no point in starting any business until you get this right.

Since I took the decision to focus on just one thing – one business, no more new courses, no more “must have” products my mind has been clearer as to what I must do BUT…

This short video message from Lisa Diane (6mProfitMethod) really opened my eyes to where I’ve been going wrong.

There’s no sales pitch, nothing to buy simply a great 15 minutes or so explanation of what EVERY successful person has in place BEFORE they really get running.

Don’t miss it – allocate 1/4 of a hour and focus on this – it could save you an enormous amount of money in the long run.

“Nothing Changes Without a Change”

On the verge of giving up. Tired of the same old “internet”promises. That was me a week ago.

I truly believe that if somebody can do it then unless it is something requiring real special “in born” skills (like an artist or musician) then I can do it too.

The problem has been it hasn’t been happening.

My life has been in a mess for a while (more as you get to know me) and I just had to change something.

I often use the phrase “Nothing Changes Without a Change” meaning that I can’t expect my headache to go unless I stop hitting my head against the wall!

A change it was then – but what?

A chance email, a decision to listen and the words “when the student is ready the teacher will appear”.

Those words had a profound effect on me and I knew the time was right.

This is the diary of my journey. My hopes, my needs, the ups, the downs.
